Brechin City FC Wins Highland League

  • Submitted by: Tess White, North East Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 04 May 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08719

That the Parliament congratulates Brechin City FC, which won the Highland League on 22 May 2023 after beating fellow title contenders Buckie Thistle 2-0 in dramatic fashion, with late goals from Ewan Loudon and Grady McGrath, Brechin City’s top scorer; understands that Brechin City FC, which, it understands, took a tremendous following of over 700 fans to Buckie, will now compete in the pyramid play-off semi-final against Lowland League champions, Spartans, as it seeks to gain promotion to Scottish League Two; notes that this is the first time that Brechin City has won the Highland League in its 117-year history, marking its 17th trophy win, and wishes the players, coaching staff and fans the very best of luck as they look to end the season with promotion.
