  • Submitted by: Carol Mochan, South Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 03 April 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08433

That the Parliament congratulates Gala Fairydean Rovers FC on winning the East of Scotland Cup, defeating Linlithgow Rose FC in a penalty shoot-out on 26 March 2023; notes that it is the club's first senior trophy since being established in June 2013, when it brought together Gala Fairydean FC and Gala Rovers FC to develop all levels of football in Galashiels; understands that, in the subsequent decade, the club, its academy and its community trust have provided opportunities for hundreds of people across the Scottish Borders to participate in football through its men's, women's, walking and para-football teams, as well as its junior academy; recognises what it sees as the cultural importance of the club's iconic Netherdale stand, which was restored and re-opened in 2022, and congratulates the volunteers, players and staff involved in making the club such a valued and important part of its community.
