UK Government Rhetoric on Illegal Migration Bill

  • Submitted by: Paul McLennan, East Lothian, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 10 March 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08160

That the Parliament condemns what it considers the cruel and threatening language of the UK Government’s communications surrounding the proposed Illegal Migration Bill; notes reports that the Home Secretary has no confidence that the Bill is compliant with the European Convention on Human Rights, and further notes the dangers of using what it sees as dehumanising rhetoric in relation to groups of vulnerable people, who, it believes, are taking significant risks to ensure their safety and that of their families.
