  • Submitted by: Paul O'Kane, West Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 02 March 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08084

That the Parliament expresses its sorrow at the deaths of Ian Catterson and George Taft, who tragically lost their lives after their tugboat, MV Biter, capsized on the River Clyde at East India Harbour, Greenock, on 24 February 2023, and sends its most heartfelt condolences to their families and friends; understands that MV Biter was escorting the MV Hebridean Princess cruise ship into Greenock at the time of the incident, and pays tribute to the emergency services for what it considers to be their incredible efforts in conducting an extensive and thorough multi-agency search and rescue operation, including Police Scotland, Scottish Ambulance Service, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, and HM Coastguard, which deployed a helicopter from Prestwick and rescue teams from Helensburgh and Greenock to assist with the rescue operation.
