Airbles Road Dementia Garden Motherwell

  • Submitted by: Gillian Mackay, Central Scotland, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 08 March 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08024

That the Parliament commends the work of the NHS Lanarkshire occupational therapy team and Clydesdale Community Initiative volunteers at Airbles Road dementia garden in Motherwell; notes that the volunteers meet every Thursday to attend all aspects of gardening throughout the seasons; considers that the weekly gardening groups enable health and wellbeing benefits for patients, volunteers and the local community; understands that the recently unveiled colourful benches were the project of local artist, John Martin Fulton, who is an award-winning Scottish artist whose paintings are full of bold colour and expression; further understands that the benches were painted in colours that are recognisable to patients with dementia, with artwork chosen by the volunteers to bring colour and joy to the garden, and wishes for the continued success and benefits of the dementia garden for all.
