That the Parliament commends Cumnock’s Derek King for his role in youth football; notes that Derek has played an active role within his community for over 29 years and is currently the coach for Cumnock Juniors Youth at Cumnock Juniors Community Enterprise (CJCE); acknowledges that Derek also works in partnership with East Ayrshire’s Vibrant Communities to deliver an all-ability sport and cycling session, and successfully launched its all-ability cycling programme in March 2022; understands that Derek picked up an award for Scottish Association of Local Sports Council (SALSC) Service to Sport at the East-Ayrshire Sports Council Awards held in November 2022; further understands that Derek was nominated for this award by additional support needs coordinator, Gary Seymour, and the local active schools coordinator, Courtney Cartner, for his various roles with Cumnock Juniors Youth FC, walking football and all-ability sports and cycling; believes that the Cumnock Juniors 2009 team was shortlisted at the awards for Team of the Year; understands that Derek also offers sports sessions for people recovering from addiction, and uses his walking football sessions to promote mental health awareness; further understands that he is also active in various local youth projects and has been the match secretary for the youth football leagues for over 23 years; commends Derek for all his hard work in the local community and dedication to his role with CJCE, and wishes him well in his future endeavours.
