NL Recovery Community's Four Steps to Recovery, These are the Days

  • Submitted by: Clare Adamson, Motherwell and Wishaw, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 13 January 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07489

That the Parliament congratulates North Lanarkshire Recovery Community (NLRC) band and Reeltime Music on their first successful community performance of These are the Days; understands that the group composed and performed the song, based on the four steps to recovery, made up of four verses, each containing four lines and four musical notes; notes that music therapy sessions involve a wide range of activities, from listening to playing music, playing musical instruments and composing songs to help with self-expression in a safe environment; further notes that addiction is often not just a physical condition but also an emotional, mental and psychological condition, and is often accompanied with stigma, and feelings of isolation and being judged; believes that music can be a powerful tool for those in recovery, enabling empowerment, improving communication, reducing symptoms of depression, enhancing peer support and challenging stigma; thanks the NLRC and Reeltime Music for opening the doors to many people, allowing them to open up about their struggles and seek support, and wishes all the recovery networks and Reeltime Music every best wish for the future.
