That the Parliament recognises Lanarkshire Recovery Cup, which took place within Ravenscraig Sports Facility on the 21 November 2022; notes that NL Recovery Community and Phonenix Futures Scotland organised the event alongside Street Soccer, with the event funded by North Lanarkshire Alcohol and Drug Partnership; further notes that 10 organisations and over 70 players from across Scotland took park; believes that stigma is a major barrier for people struggling with an alcohol and drug problem and organisations who help support them, leaving many feeling judged, isolated, without treatment and support networks; further believes that stigma not only affects individuals but families and communities, and that people must challenge negative attitudes and language; applauds the work of the Recovery Communities across Scotland for their campaign to raise awareness and support for those contending with addictions; thanks Street Soccer along with official SFA referees, Cllr Cameron McManus and Marc Howard for ensuring sportsmanship throughout all the games, Alistair Taylor for representing the Scottish Parliament football team, McDonalds Airdrie for providing the water and fruit and David Gallagher from NL Recovery Community for an excellent event; believes that events like the Lanarkshire Recovery Cup can open doors for many to open up about their struggles, and wishes all the Recovery Networks across Scotland all the best for the future.
