  • Submitted by: James Dornan, Glasgow Cathcart, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 08 November 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-06570

That the Parliament notes that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) with its 27th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) being held from 6 to 18 November 2022 in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt; understands that Taiwan’s renewable energy installation has increased by over 100%, particularly in solar and offshore wind sectors; acknowledges what it considers as Taiwan's active participation during COP26, which was successfully held in Glasgow last year; commends that Taiwan’s president Tsai Ing-wen announced the goal of net zero emissions by 2050 on Earth Day in 2021, investing, it understands, £27 billion pounds ($30 billion dollars) by 2030 aimed at promoting four transition strategies focused on energy, industry, lifestyle and society; understands that Taiwan is willing to draw on what it sees as its leadership in the global high-tech sector to make contributions toward building a net zero world jointly with the international community, and calls for continuous support for what it sees as Taiwan’s professional, pragmatic, and constructive participation in the UNFCCC, the Paris Agreement, and associated mechanisms.
