Haddington's New Siege Commemoration Garden

  • Submitted by: Paul McLennan, East Lothian, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 27 July 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05530

That the Parliament congratulates Blooming Haddington’s success in securing funding for a siege commemoration garden; notes the work undertaken by Siege of Haddington Research Group and the focus on educating the people of Scotland about the country's longest siege at Haddington; understands that there is very little physical evidence of the siege works and fortifications left standing today in Haddington, therefore believes that the commemoration will be essential to use the latest in virtual heritage engagement to inform the public; further understands that it will become a stopping-off point of the planned digital reconstruction and augmented reality experience, giving visitors a safe place to sit and engage with the virtual tour, and congratulates both groups for their dedication to enhancing knowledge about Scottish History.
