25th Anniversary of Speyfest

  • Submitted by: Douglas Ross, Highlands and Islands, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 27 July 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05526

That the Parliament congratulates the organisers of Speyfest on its 25th anniversary and a successful event held in Fochabers from 22 to 24 July 2022; understands that the event once again provided three days of exceptional music and entertainment; notes the moving tributes paid by his family, the audience and musicians to the late James Alexander MBE, who, it understands, founded the traditional Scottish and Celtic music event initially as a way to promote local musical talent but which has now grown to a festival that attracts leading national and international acts; praises what it sees as his positive impact on the lives of so many young musicians in Moray and across the world; notes that more than 70 musicians put on almost 40 performances and that Speyfest also put on a craft fair and a Celtic Kirk, and commends all the organisers and volunteers for their efforts in delivering another successful Speyfest.
