Faces and Voices of Recovery UK Addiction Advocacy Service Report

  • Submitted by: Monica Lennon, Central Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 22 April 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04085

That the Parliament commends the work of the advocacy charity, Faces and Voices of Recovery UK (FAVOR UK), in supporting individuals affected by substance misuse; understands that, in March 2021, FAVOR UK received funding from the Corra Foundation to deliver an advocacy service, predominately based in Scotland's Central Belt, and has recently published a six-month progress report; notes that, according to the report, demand for this service has exceeded expectations, highlighting what it sees as the high demand for drug and alcohol addiction advocacy services; is concerned that some individuals who interacted with the advocacy service reportedly had low awareness of other local services, experienced restricted choice of access to residential rehabilitation, and reported feeling disrespected or abandoned by services; commends the advocacy work led by FAVOR UK, and believes that the Scottish Government and partners should reflect on the findings of the report and take further action to improve access to addiction and recovery services across Scotland.
