Berryhill Primary School’s Walking Bus

  • Submitted by: Clare Adamson, Motherwell and Wishaw, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 04 April 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-03907

That the Parliament commends pupils and teachers at Berryhill Primary School in Wishaw on creating a new initiative encouraging pupils to walk to school; understands that as part of Berryhill Primary School’s COVID-19 recovery and to support its children and their family’s wellbeing, teachers looked at how they could improve attendance and timekeeping; further understands that after consultation with parents, the school decided to pilot a Walking Bus, which is an initiative run by principal teacher, Marina Mathieson and acting principal teacher, Susan Clelland; understands that the children helped to create a route and that all classes participated in the Walking Bus themed literacy and maths lessons to plan and organise this initiative, and wishes teachers and pupils at Berryhill Primary School all the best for the future.
