  • Motion reference: S6M-03726

That the Parliament applauds the residents, businesses and organisations across Motherwell and Wishaw, who have come together to form Murdostoun Stands With Ukraine; understands that Andrzej and Izabela Wojdak, Cameron McManus, Robert McKendrick, Sharon Barrett, and Loraine Duncan orchestrated donation points, collected essential items, organised logistics of transport to Poland and Ukraine, and were assisted by Pola Polish Lanarkshire Forum, local businesses, primary and high schools, parishes and churches, Scout and Brownie groups, community groups, and residents from the surrounding villages and towns; further understands that 60 tonnes of essential goods and medical supplies have been transported to refugee bases in Lublin and Tarnowskie Góry, an orphanage in Jastrzebie Zdroj, and firefighters and ambulance services in Lviv; understands that for each lorry to transport essential supplies between Wishaw and Poland it costs over £2,500 and Ukraine drivers then go on to join the Ukraine Army or help at the refugee points; commends everyone who has donated their time, items and money to the humanitarian appeals, and hopes that peace in Ukraine will be restored and democracy upheld, and encourages anybody who wishes to support Ukraine to donate to the Disaster Emergency Committees Ukraine Appeal.
