Month of the Military Child

  • Submitted by: Martin Whitfield, South Scotland, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 22 March 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-03690

That the Parliament recognises that April is the Month of the Military Child; understands that growing up in an armed forces family is a unique experience and that high levels of mobility, coping with parental deployment and the transition to civilian life, can pose challenges for the education and learning, and mental health and wellbeing of children and young people, and recognises the work of Forces Children Scotland, formerly the Royal Caledonian Education Trust, to support children and young people from serving, reservist and veteran families to achieve their potential and to thrive through creating opportunities for them to get involved, to make friends and be heard, and by providing financial support, delivering projects and services that support them, providing advice and support to those working with them, and building sector partnerships to help influence change in policy and practice.
