St Philomena's Primary School Win Learning for Sustainability Award

  • Submitted by: Paul Sweeney, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 04 November 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01906

That the Parliament congratulates St Philomena’s Primary School in Provanmill on winning a Learning for Sustainability Award; notes that the award was given in recognition of the Langdale Street Minecraft Project, where it is understood that pupils created their school and local area in the Minecraft video game as part of a project to develop proposals to improve the community; further understands that the project was inspired by the hopes of the young people that a public square could be created on Langdale Street near the school, which they believed could help them create a greener Glasgow; acknowledges that the project is part of a large-scale community initiative to create greener neighbourhoods in the area called “Flourishing Molendinar”, which is being led by St Paul’s Youth Forum, also based in the Provanmill area, and supported by Sustrans and Transport Scotland; commends the school and supporting organisations for their work in equipping young people with the tools to explore planning and urban design in their communities, and hopes to see the young people's green proposals influence real-life infrastructure plans in the coming years.
