Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel

  • Submitted by: Drew Smith, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 05 November 2012
  • Motion reference: S4M-04677

That the Parliament notes the work of the Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI), which brings visitors to the West Bank to experience life under occupation; understands that Ecumenical Accompaniers provide a protective presence to vulnerable communities, monitor and report human rights abuses and support Palestinians and Israelis working together for peace; further understands that, when they return home, Ecumenical Accompaniers campaign for a just and peaceful resolution to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict through an end to the occupation, respect for international law and implementation of UN resolutions; believes that the mission of the EAPPI is to accompany Palestinians and Israelis in their non-violent actions and to carry out concerted advocacy efforts to end the occupation; understands that its approach is based on the belief that the occupation is harmful not only to Palestinians but also to Israelis; welcomes the EAPPI's programme, which it considers demonstrates its solidarity with people on both sides of this conflict who strive non-violently to end the occupation and achieve a just peace, and commends the Glasgow resident, Geraldine O’Neill, who is taking part in the project from 10 November 2012 for three months.
