To ask the Scottish Government what requirements it places on contractors to provide training opportunities as part of its motorway improvements in Central Scotland.

The use of community benefit clauses in procurement is widespread across the public sector in Scotland and is creating a large range of training and recruitment opportunities.

The M8 M73 M74 and the Forth Replacement Crossing projects have employed a total of 76 job starts, with a further 78 people benefitting from apprenticeships and vocational training and 48 graduates employed.

Aside from the major infrastructure projects, the trunk road term maintenance contracts also include similar requirements.

To ask the Scottish Government what support is available to help women with neurofibromatosis access pre-implantation genetic diagnosis.

The Scottish Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) screening service provides cytogenetic testing for foetal chromosome abnormalities and single gene disorders. However, access to PGD is dependent on criteria set out in The Scottish Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis and Screening Service Framework for Decision Making, which can be found at: http://www.nsd.scot.nhs.uk/services/specserv/preimplant.html.

Different types of neurofibromatosis conditions exist and PGD access via the NHS will depend on the individual case. The PGD framework aims to ensure that decisions made relating to access to and prioritisation of patients in the PGD service in Scotland are reasonable, transparent and justifiable.

Individuals can seek support or advice about access to PGD from their GP or consultant. Some UK networks and organisations also exist, which offer people concerned about neurofibromatosis advice or support to find appropriate solutions.
