Questions and answers

Parliamentary questions can be asked by any MSP to the Scottish Government or the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. The questions provide a means for MSPs to get factual and statistical information.

  • Written questions must be answered within 10 working days (20 working days during recess)
  • Other questions such as Topical, Portfolio, General and First Minister's Question Times are taken in the Chamber

To ask the Scottish Government, further to the statement by a government spokesperson reported in The Press and Journal on 6 October 2015 that “Scottish councils already retain all of the business rates they collect”, whether this means that a Scottish local authority that increases the amount of business rates collected in its area will retain all of that revenue.

To ask the Scottish Government, further to the answer to question S4W-27205 by Humza Yousaf on 17 September 2015, which sub-sections of section 32 of the Freedom of Information Act (Scotland) 2002 it considers allow it to refuse to confirm or deny whether the case of Shaker Aamer was raised at the meeting between the First Minister and the US Deputy Secretary of State.

To ask the Scottish Government, further to the answer to question S4W-27206 by Humza Yousaf on 17 September 2015, whether ministers will reconsider their decision to withhold from parliamentary answers information about whether case of Shaker Aamer was raised at the meeting between the First Minister and the US Deputy Secretary of State, given the UK Government’s confirmation that the Foreign Secretary raised the case with the US authorities in November 2010.
