To ask the Scottish Executive what the costs were of (a) entertaining, (b) transporting and (c) accommodating all the members of the MMR Expert Group.
Answer
Accommodation and subsistence costs arising from the work of the MMR Expert Group were £8,090 in total. Members' travel costs totalled £4,440. Information about such expenses (as at 31 March 2002) was set out in Annex 3 of the report published on 30 April 2002. Members of the expert group were not entertained in the course of preparing their report. However, they were invited by the Scottish Executive to a reception at Bute House on 12 June 2002, to acknowledge their personal contribution to that task. The cost of that reception was £320.

To ask the Presiding Officer when it was discovered that there was an issue with mice in the Parliament Headquarters building; what action has been taken to deal with the issue; when staff were, or will be, informed of the situation, and whether other parliamentary accommodation is also experiencing difficulties with mice and, if so, which accommodation.
Answer
A pest control contract has been in place since the Parliament moved into the Parliament Headquarters building (PHQ). This was necessary, as part of planned preventative maintenance, due to the number of restaurants in the surrounding area and the mouse problem in Edinburgh itself. Bait boxes are placed in the most appropriate areas and the contractor visits regularly to check and replenish as necessary. There have been few reports of mice within PHQ, the most recent being on the 28 May on the second floor. The contractor attended the following day and installed bait boxes to the affected area. Steps are also being taken to ensure that all waste kept in the garage until uplift is appropriately stored to prevent any encouragement to mice.No information has been sent to staff specifically on the subject of mice, but notices have been sent regarding the cleanliness of tea point areas and fridges. The FM Helpdesk received a report of a possible sighting of a mouse in Cannonball House on 6 June. This is the first incident reported within this building and the pest control contractor has been asked to investigate and install bait boxes as required.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will support the retention of ring-fenced special educational needs budgets to allow funding to be directed at the appropriate provision for children with autism.
Answer
Provision for the education of children with special educational needs, including autism, is currently supported by the Scottish Executive through grant aided expenditure to local authorities. In addition, specific grant allocations are made and I refer the member to the answer given to question S1W-25859 today, where these specific grant programmes are detailed. The Scottish Executive's programme expenditure is being reviewed across the board in the context of 2002 Spending Review but there are no plans at present to end the above specific grants.
