To ask the Scottish Executive whether there has been a policy decision to collect from crime scenes DNA instead of fingerprint evidence.
Answer
The collection of evidence at crime scenes is an operational matter for the Scottish Police Services Authority and police chief constables. Both fingerprints and DNA samples are invaluable in providing evidence linking an individual to a crime scene. Expert scene examination officers and investigating police officers take decisions on the most appropriate method of collecting evidence based on the circumstances of the individual crime scene. If both fingerprint and DNA evidence are present at a scene then both would generally be collected.

To ask the Scottish Executive what progress has been made in identifying and agreeing the funding needed to build a new Eastwood High School in East Renfrewshire.
Answer
The Scottish Futures Trust (SFT) wrote to East Renfrewshire Council in January 2010, setting out the maximum amount of funding that the Scottish Government will contribute towards the construction costs of the new Eastwood High School. The SFT''s letter indicated that the council should anticipate receiving a maximum funding contribution of £17.75 million, which represents two-thirds of the capital cost of building the new school.

To ask the Scottish Executive what the timetable is for building a new Eastwood High School in East Renfrewshire.
Answer
The replacement of Eastwood High School, together with Lasswade High School in Midlothian, is part of the pilot project being taken forward by the Scottish Futures Trust. The design team for the pilot project will be appointed shortly. The tendering process to secure a building contractor commenced on 31 March 2010. It is anticipated that a contractor will be appointed by summer 2011 and that construction will commence in January 2012, for completion by summer 2013.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it is aware of a reduction in the number of hours of in-service training on Modern Languages in the Primary School courses since 1999.
Answer
The Scottish Government does not collect information on the numbers of hours of Modern Languages in the Primary School training offered by local authorities. However, as specified in my answer to your question S3W-31088 on 4 February 2010, we do engage closely with interested parties, particularly through meetings of the Cultural Organisations and Local Authorities (COALA) network, where issues around modern languages in the primary school, and other matters pertaining to the learning and teaching of modern languages in schools, are routinely discussed.
