To ask the Scottish Executive, further to the answer to question S1W-8508 by Mr Tom McCabe on 30 August 2000, on how many occasions since 10 July 2000 it has asked back-bench MSPs to lodge parliamentary questions in order to enable it to make an announcement and whether it will provide a list of such questions, including the date on which they were lodged and the MSP who lodged them.

To ask the Scottish Executive what type of boats will use the Millennium Link canal; whether any traffic projections have been made and, if so, whether it will give details of these projections and where the narrowest point in the canal will be to allow boats to pass through and what the width of that will be.

To ask the Scottish Executive, further to the answer to question S1W-9603 by Henry McLeish on 19 September 2000, when Ministers next intend to meet representatives of the Scottish Further Education Unit and what issues will be discussed.
Answer
There are currently no plans for Ministers to meet formally with representatives of the Scottish Further Education Unit. However, Alasdair Morrison, Deputy Minister for Enterprise, Lifelong Learning and Gaelic is planning to attend SFEU's National Conference, "Building the Future", on 23 November 2000. The main themes of the conference will be lifelong learning; social justice; economic competitiveness; Information and Communication Technology, and Research and Development.

I plan to meet representatives of the organisations which come within my portfolio, including the Scottish Arts Council, in the near future and will discuss with them a wide range of current issues.
