To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will detail the cost of overtime payments to police officers during the recent two-day fire strike, broken down by police force area, and whether it will meet the cost of such payments.
Answer
All Scottish police forces have been advised that the cost of any necessary activity incurred in connection with the current industrial activity which is additional to, but not in substitution for, that normally incurred by forces will be reimbursed in full by the Executive. Claims are to be submitted on a monthly basis. Claims covering the recent two-day strike have therefore still to be submitted.

To ask the Presiding Officer what the cost to the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body (SPCB) has been of (a) travel, (b) accommodation and (c) other expenses in respect of MSPs taking part in Scottish Parliament and Business Exchange programmes in each year since the scheme started.

The Exchange is to draw down, in January 2003, the first tranche of this budget for the following expenditure within the UK in this financial year:
Travel | £1,948.43 |
Accommodation: | £1,043.00 |
Other Expenses (i.e. meals) | £109.78 |
Total | £3,101.21 |

To ask the Scottish Executive what local authorities will be charged for the use of Green Goddesses and military service personnel during the forthcoming fire service strike days.
Answer
Costs have already been occurred by police and the military in the preparation of plans against the possibility of fire service industrial action but until the police forces and the MoD submit detailed costs it is not possible to quantify the amounts involved. The UK Government and the Scottish Executive has agreed with fire authorities that the cost incurred in any dispute will be funded centrally, less the savings accruing from the non-payment of striking firefighters wages.
