To ask the Scottish Executive what percentage of primary (a) one and (b) seven pupils has been assessed with visible signs of dental decay in each year since 1999, broken down by NHS board.

Information on the percentage of pupils with obvious decay experience is available for certain years between 1999 and 2011 and is detailed in the following tables. Since 2003, this information has been derived from the Detailed Inspections of the National Dental Inspection Programme (NDIP), where a sample of Primary 1 or Primary 7 children in alternate years is inspected in local authority schools across Scotland. Figures for 1999 derive from The Scottish Health Boards' Dental Epidemiological Programme (SHBDEP).

To ask the Scottish Executive how much has been spent by each local authority on consultancy fees in each year since 1999.

The Scottish Government publishes the annual Scottish Local Government Finance Statistics.

These publications provide a comprehensive review of Scottish local authority financial activity and cover local authority income, revenue and capital expenditure, outstanding debt, local taxation and local authority pensions. Any expenditure on consultancy fees would be included against the relevant service heading but is not separately identifiable.

To ask the Scottish Executive how much has been spent on publicly funded publications by its health directorates in each year since 1999.

Information on the value of the spend on publicly funded publications by its health directorates is not available for 1999 to 2001. The information from 2002 is as follows:

The total spend provided includes the printing costs of publications, leaflets and medical forms and the associated costs including web conversion, storage and distribution.

The types of publications and leaflets include material related to a number of high profile campaigns such as the annual flu campaign, Hand Hygiene information, Steps for Stress booklet, smoking cessation and alcohol awareness information. It also includes the costs of producing medical forms including eye examination, dental and GP forms.

To ask the Scottish Executive how much it will invest in residential respite care over the next four years.

The vast majority of funding which the Scottish Government provides local government in Scotland, including the funding for respite care, is provided by means of a block grant. It is the responsibility of each local authority to allocate the total financial resources available to it on the basis of local needs and priorities having first fulfilled its statutory obligations and the jointly agreed set of national and local priorities including the Scottish Government’s key strategic objectives.

We made available to local authorities an extra £4.19 million (£1.37 million in 2009-10 and £2.82 million in 2010-11) to enable local authorities to deliver an extra 10,000 respite weeks by 2011. The £2.82 million will be maintained at the same level within the 2012-15 local government finance settlement. It is for local authorities to decide themselves how much of this will be allocated to residential respite care.

Subject to parliamentary approval of the draft budget, we will be investing £3 million through the voluntary sector on respite in each year of the Spending Review between 2012-13 and 2014-15. Some of this might be for residential respite care depending on applications submitted.

To ask the Scottish Executive what information it has on how many petrol stations there have been in each local authority area in each year since 1999.

Table 1, shows the number of petrol stations operating in Scotland between 1999 and 2011.

Please note that the data, in Table 1 are based on the number of business sites falling under the Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) code for “Retail Sale of Automotive Fuel in Specialised Stores” – and therefore petrol stations that are attached to large supermarkets will tend not to be included in these data. The activities of supermarket petrol stations will fall under the SIC code for supermarkets. The SIC code of a business site is determined by its main activity.
