To ask the Scottish Executive how many people have received support from bereavement support teams in each year since 2007, broken down by NHS board, and how many teams each board has.

Guidance on the development and delivery of quality bereavement care services (entitled Shaping Bereavement Care) was issued to NHSScotland in February 2011 (www.sehd.scot.nhs.uk/mels/cel2011_09.pdf). This followed extensive debate over two years and reflects the report and recommendations of a multi-disciplinary project group.

In addition an interactive Scottish Grief and Bereavement Hub, officially launched at the NHSScotland event on 21 June 2012, is being developed to facilitate the sharing of good practice, support the future planning of bereavement care and link cross-cutting policies. The Hub will help build relationships between bereavement co-ordinators and others involved in the planning and delivery of bereavement care.

To ask the Scottish Executive how many people have been screened by each NHS board as part of the cardiac assessment of young athletes programme in each year since the programme was introduced.

We’ve invested over £350,000 in Scotland’s Cardiac Assessment of Young Athletes (CAYA) Programme, which has enabled over 1,500 young people who are engaged in competitive sports to undergo cardiovascular assessment.

Sports covered by the programme include football, basketball, swimming, gymnastics, cycling, hockey and rugby. A breakdown of the number of athletes that have been screened in each NHS board follows:

In 2010, the CAYA programme was extended to rural areas through satellite clinics. CAYA satellite clinics have taken place in Aberdeen, Inverness, Dundee, Dingwall, Selkirk and Perth and further clinics are planned in the Outer Hebrides and Ayrshire.

To ask the Scottish Executive what additional costs local authorities will face in meeting the new duty, under section 32B of the Housing (Scotland) Act 1987, to assess and provide for the housing support needs of homeless people.

A consultation on implementation of the new duty closed on 11 April 2012. Independent analysis of all responses to the consultation is currently underway.

It is not possible to identify exact costs to local authorities of fulfilling the new duty. However, in a Supplementary Financial Memorandum attached to the Housing (Scotland) Act 2010, the cost of housing support assessment and provision of service was estimated to be £21.6 million. This estimate was based on 2009-10 figures.
