To ask the Scottish Executive how it will support universities offering degrees in architecture, built environment and planning following the proposal from the Scottish Funding Council to reduce the funding for these degrees by 22%.
Answer
How to allocate funding for teaching in universities is a matter for the Scottish Funding Council, rather than Scottish ministers. We have however ensured that the Funding Council is aware of the views of the professional bodies for architecture, built environment and planning about its proposed reforms for teaching funding. The Chief Executive of the Funding Council met the Scottish Government''s Chief Planner and Chief Architect on 27 January 2010 to discuss this matter.

To ask the Scottish Executive how much salt was provided to Fife Council via the Scottish Government Resilience Room between 17 December 2009 and 5 January 2010 inclusive and when any such deliveries were made.
Answer
The data requested is commercial information. With the support of the Scottish Government Resilience Room, neighbouring local authorities and trunk road operators provided mutual aid to re-distribute available salt to Fife Council during the period in question. More recently, the Scottish Salt Cell, which was established by Scottish Government to support our councils and trunk road operating companies in managing salt stocks during the prolonged winter weather, has also secured significant new salt supplies for Fife Council.

To ask the Scottish Executive what action it is taking to tackle inequalities, given that, according to the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation 2009, Templehall, Gallatown and Sinclairtown in Kirkcaldy have remained in the top 15% most deprived areas in Scotland while parts of Linktown, Seafield and the West of Burntisland have moved into this category.
Answer
In partnership with local government the Scottish Government has set out an overarching framework for tackling inequalities in Achieving our Potential and the linked social frameworks Equally Well and Early Years. These are available on the Scottish Government website http//:
www.scotland.gov.uk.
Within this context the Scottish Government is providing both substantial resources and local flexibility on investment to local authorities through the annual local government finance settlements.
