To ask the Scottish Executive what the most recent estimate is of the number of teleworkers.
Answer
The most recent estimates taken from the Spring
1 2004 Labour Force Survey estimate that there are 118,000
2 teleworkers
3 in Scotland.
Notes:
1. The spring quarter runs from March to May.
2. Figure is rounded to the nearest thousand and is not seasonally adjusted.
3. Teleworkers are defined as people who work at home and require the use of both a telephone and computer to carry out their work.

To ask the Scottish Executive what level of funding it provides to organisations addressing bullying amongst school pupils.
Answer
Since 1999, the Scottish Executive has funded a national Anti-Bullying Network, and since 1998 it has provided funding to support the ChildLine Bullying Helpline. Scottish Executive funding for anti-bullying activity for 2004-05 and projected funding in 2005-06 are as follows:

The evidence has been used to develop a new specification for a national anti-bullying programme that will take a strong a pro-active role in developing the role of professionals in all children’s services in preventing bullying and responding effectively when it occurs.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it is studying, or intends to study, patterns in teleworking and its possible effect on traffic levels.
Answer
The Scottish Executive has commissioned research to assess the implications of e-working and other information and communication technologies (ICT) on travel behaviour and traffic reduction in Scotland. This research is reaching its final stages and we will consider its findings in due course.
