To ask the Scottish Government (a) how many and (b) what errors have been made during IVF treatment in each of the last five years.

To ask the Scottish Government whether an IVF cycle includes up to three treatments.

Current guidance with NHS boards on the recommended number of IVF cycles was published in 2000 by the Expert Advisory Group on Infertility Services in Scotland.

These guidelines, which remain extant, recommend that eligible patients receive a maximum of three NHS funded cycles of IVF. This includes two transfers of fresh embryos and, where frozen embryos are available, the third NHS funded cycle should involve transfer of stored embryos.

The National Infertility Group will make recommendations to ministers, including an update on the number and definition of IVF cycles for eligible patients, by the end of December 2012.

To ask the Scottish Government whether it is planning to hold conferences to assess and consider the needs of patients with reproductive conditions who are not receiving treatment.

There are currently no plans to hold conferences to assess and consider the needs of patients with reproductive conditions who are not receiving treatment.

The National Infertility Group, set up, in April 2010, has a broad range of infertility experts, including the patient stakeholder group, Infertility Network Scotland. The Group will submit its report, with recommendations on many aspects of infertility treatment, to ministers by the end of December 2012.
