Question

To ask the Scottish Government whether it plans to support the introduction of planning apprenticeship schemes in order to encourage people into town planning careers.

Answer

The Scottish Government funded and supported delivery of the recent Future Planners Project Report which identifies the need for a number of new initiatives to increase the number of planners working in Scotland, including introducing a planning apprenticeship scheme. We recognise the value such an apprenticeship scheme would bring and we are engaging with the Royal Town Planning Institute to support introduction of a planning apprenticeship scheme in Scotland.
