The Official Report is a written record of public meetings of the Parliament and committees.
The Official Report search offers lots of different ways to find the information you’re looking for. The search is used as a professional tool by researchers and third-party organisations. It is also used by members of the public who may have less parliamentary awareness. This means it needs to provide the ability to run complex searches, and the ability to browse reports or perform a simple keyword search.
The web version of the Official Report has three different views:
Depending on the kind of search you want to do, one of these views will be the best option. The default view is to show the report for each meeting of Parliament or a committee. For a simple keyword search, the results will be shown by item of business.
When you choose to search by a particular MSP, the results returned will show each spoken contribution in Parliament or a committee, ordered by date with the most recent contributions first. This will usually return a lot of results, but you can refine your search by keyword, date and/or by meeting (committee or Chamber business).
We’ve chosen to display the entirety of each MSP’s contribution in the search results. This is intended to reduce the number of times that users need to click into an actual report to get the information that they’re looking for, but in some cases it can lead to very short contributions (“Yes.”) or very long ones (Ministerial statements, for example.) We’ll keep this under review and get feedback from users on whether this approach best meets their needs.
There are two types of keyword search:
If you select an MSP’s name from the dropdown menu, and add a phrase in quotation marks to the keyword field, then the search will return only examples of when the MSP said those exact words. You can further refine this search by adding a date range or selecting a particular committee or Meeting of the Parliament.
It’s also possible to run basic Boolean searches. For example:
There are two ways of searching by date.
You can either use the Start date and End date options to run a search across a particular date range. For example, you may know that a particular subject was discussed at some point in the last few weeks and choose a date range to reflect that.
Alternatively, you can use one of the pre-defined date ranges under “Select a time period”. These are:
If you search by an individual session, the list of MSPs and committees will automatically update to show only the MSPs and committees which were current during that session. For example, if you select Session 1 you will be show a list of MSPs and committees from Session 1.
If you add a custom date range which crosses more than one session of Parliament, the lists of MSPs and committees will update to show the information that was current at that time.

The minister will be aware that auction marts are beginning to leave islands, forcing island farmers and crofters to take their livestock off island to sell. That means that they accept lower prices, because otherwise they have to take those animals back on island. What can he do to help islands to continue to have their auction marts locally, so that they can sell their animals at the highest price?

I guess that what I am asking is whether there is an easy way of doing that. How do you make those rules available so that people who come into the area quickly get them and comply with them?

On the same theme, local management would give local fishers ownership of their area and create better compliance. I am not trying to pitch one sector against another, but how do you then involve in that process those fishers on boats that are not locally based? Since a lot of the fishing community move quite a lot and are not locally based, if local compliance is set up in a community, how do those fishers have a voice, and how is compliance encouraged? I am sorry—I am not putting that very clearly.

The statement did not mention freight capacity at all. The building of the Western Isles interconnector will require almost all the current freight capacity on the MV Loch Seaforth, while the building of new distilleries on Islay will increase freight traffic there. How does the cabinet secretary intend to increase freight capacity? Will ferries that are due to be replaced be kept in the fleet to provide additional capacity where and when it is required in the future?

Listing the projects that have been completed instead of the dualling of the A9 simply adds insult to injury for the people of the north, who have waited too long. How much land has been purchased for the A9 and how much remains to be purchased?

To ask the Scottish Government whether it will provide an update on its consideration of the impact of the change in subsidised air service provider between Uist and Stornoway on access to services, including health services, for people with reduced mobility. (S6O-03650)

I look forward to receiving an update about the meeting between the council and the health board. However, the issue is even more pressing due to the lack of availability of health services in the Uist and Barra hospital, many having been pulled back to the Lewis hospital in Stornoway. Will more services be available locally, so that those who cannot access the new aeroplane can get health treatments and chemotherapy closer to home?

You quoted a figure for salmon returns. Did you say 97 per cent? Is that adult salmon, or is that smolts? The figure does not seem to fit with—
