To ask the Scottish Executive whether it considers that the A75 trunk route should maintain its position on the EU's Essen Trans European Network priority list.
Answer
The Executive believes that the A75's inclusion in the Trans European Network as part of the Ireland-UK-Benelux priority route recognises the vital role that this road plays in the European road network. Our commitment in the Motorway and Trunk Road Programme 2001-04 to invest £22 million in the A75 confirms our position on this.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will place in the Scottish Parliament Information Centre copies of all correspondence since 1997 relating to actual or potential Essen Trans European Network projects in Scotland.
Answer
Under the Scottish Executive's Code of Practice on Access to Scottish Executive Information, information whose disclosure would harm the frankness and candour of internal discussion including internal opinion, advice, recommendation, consultation and deliberation between departments is not released. We therefore have no plans to place this information in the Parliament's Reference Centre.

To ask the Scottish Executive how much European funding has been received in respect of the Glens improvement on the A75.
Answer
Trans-European Network (TEN) funding of some £350,000 was received in 1997 as a contribution to the improvement of the A75 at the Glen. The project has since been completed and a further claim for the outstanding amount of 780,000 ECU is being finalised. No other TEN funding has been received for upgrading the A75.

To ask the Scottish Executive what criteria it uses in assessing requests from local authorities for additional funding to prevent the closure of rural schools.
Answer
Funding for local authorities is not provided on this basis. Local authorities are responsible for funding the schools in their areas from the general resources available to them and determine their own priorities.

To ask the Scottish Executive what assessment it has made of the economy of Dumfries and Galloway following the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.
Answer
The Dumfries and Galloway Economic Forum is leading a group of local organisations to assess the scale and nature of the impact in the Dumfries and Galloway area. Their work is feeding into the Economic Impact Assessment Group which Ross Finnie set up in March 2001 to inform the Executive's response in providing immediate hardship relief and planning for longer-term recovery.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it intends to call in the planning application for a proposed waste energy plant at Dargavel, Dumfriesshire.
Answer
No. Planning permission for this development was granted by Dumfries and Galloway Council on 31 May 2001. There were no planning reasons for the Scottish Ministers to intervene in the processing of this application by the council.

To ask the Scottish Executive whether it will list all sales of Forestry Commission Land since 1 January 1999, showing the location, acreage and selling price in each case.
Answer
The table gives details of all the forest land (i.e. the forests, woods, associated unplanted land and land originally acquired for planting) that was sold by the Forestry Commission between 1 January 1999 and 31 December 2000, the latest date for which information is available. The table gives the name, location and area of each sale. In each case, the commission sought the purchaser's permission to disclose the price paid, and this is included whenever such permission was given.
