There are also doubts about cross-referencing and dates. The committee should, perhaps, draw those doubts to the attention of the Rural Affairs Committee.
Clearly there is a difficulty if the minister cannot give us figures to level 2 until 20 September. The autumn recess also gets in the way, as the end of October is not long after that.
What is the point of the Executive setting a cut-off date of 31 October for late claims, but then holding back a quarter of a million pounds from the pension fund surplus for further late claims that might be submitted after the cut-off date?

Rule 2.3.1 of our standing orders states:"In considering dates of any Parliamentary recess, the Parliamentary Bureau shall have regard to the dates when schools in any part of Scotland are to be on holiday."
The committee meeting on 27 June is our last scheduled meeting before the Parliament goes into recess during July and August. When the committee returns in September, it is likely to begin considering a draft preliminary stage report.
