We should be aware of the constant tension—I hope creative tension—between the desire among politicians, the public and the media for quick fixes and quick results and the need for a much more sustainable, long-term approach compared to the past. The NHS has been blighted by quick fixes in the past, and millions of pounds have been squandered on them.
