Solidarity with Jammu and Kashmir

  • Submitted by: Anas Sarwar, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 09 August 2019
  • Motion reference: S5M-18484

That the Parliament expresses concern at the Indian Government’s reported decision to revoke Article 370 of its constitution, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir; believes that this further undermines their autonomy and does nothing to further the principles of peace and justice; recognises the concerns of Kashmiri, Pakistani and Indian people living in Scotland who it considers want to see a de-escalation and all communities living side by side in peace, and calls on the Scottish Government, UK Government and international community to urge the Indian Government to reverse without delay what it considers this reckless decision, to demand an immediate end to the reported human rights abuses and to facilitate a meaningful dialogue between all parties so that the people of Jammu and Kashmir can have the right to self-determination that it understands they were promised.
