The Passing of Athletics Coach Iain Robertson

  • Submitted by: Brian Whittle, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 09 September 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-01128

That the Parliament notes the sad news of the sudden passing of Scottish coaching stalwart Ian Robertson; considers that there are few coaches in Scottish athletics who have contributed so much to sport, not only in coaching female sprinters to Olympic, World, European and Commonwealth Games level, but also to coach development and to club leadership and management; understands that he contributed significantly to the coach education programme that would ultimately become Great Britain's, that he was the architect in the transformation of Maryhill AC to Glasgow AC, changing the culture of women's athletics in Scotland, that he served as a coach in GB Teams, in addition to similar Scottish duties, and worked on several GB training camps; believes that so many of the current crop of coaches in Scotland owe Iain a huge debt of gratitude, and passes on its condolences to his family and friends.
