Success on the Track at the Olympic Games

  • Submitted by: Brian Whittle, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 10 August 2021
  • Motion reference: S6M-00840

That the Parliament recognises the achievements of Laura Muir and Josh Kerr in winning medals on the track at the Tokyo Olympic Games, the first Scottish athletes to do so in 33 years; notes that Laura won a silver medal in the 1,500m in a British record time, and that this was her first global medal; recognises the significant contribution and achievement of her coach, Andy Young, who also coaches Gemma Reekie, who narrowly missed a medal in the 800m where she came fourth; notes that Josh became the second fastest British 1,500m runner of all time in winning the bronze medal, under the coaching prowess of Mark Rowland, who himself is a bronze medallist from the 1988 Olympic Games, and wishes them both further success in their remarkable careers.
