Professor Kenneth MacKinnon 1933-2021/ An t-Ollamh Coinneach MacFhionghuin 1933-2021

That the Parliament notes with sadness the recent death of Professor Ken MacKinnon; notes his substantial contribution to Gaelic development, including his history of the language, Gaelic: A Past and Future Prospect, his pioneering work on the sociolinguists of Gaelic, which earned him the nickname of the “father of Gaelic sociolinguistics” and his contribution to the language through membership of the Ministerial Advisory Group of Gaelic and of the boards of Bòrd na Gàidhlig and MG ALBA; recognises Ken’s contribution to the development of Cornish language; expresses its sympathy to his family and friends, and recognises the impressive legacy which he has left through his work and through encouraging linguistic research and researchers.
