Funding for Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway

  • Submitted by: Angus MacDonald, Falkirk East, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 11 February 2021
  • Motion reference: S5M-24120

That the Parliament welcomes the news of over £158,000 in funding for the Scottish Railway Preservation Society’s (SRPS) Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway from Historic Environment Scotland; understands that this funding will enable essential electrical work to be carried out on several buildings at the site in Bo’ness to enhance the visitor experience and to carry out further upgrades to assist with social distancing measures on its fleet of historical rail carriages; recognises the importance of the work of volunteers of SRPS in maintaining and promoting Scotland’s railway heritage, through rail tours and themed days throughout the year; acknowledges that the 50th anniversary year of SRPS Railtours Ltd has been significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, where normally 60,000 visitors come to experience what is on offer, this last year has seen its services close to the public like many other attractions across the world; commends all volunteers and staff at SRPS for the work that they carry out, and looks forward to a better and safer season in 2021 following these essential works to the Bo’ness and Kinneil railway.
