Detention of Alexei Navalny

That the Parliament notes the reported detention of the Russian opposition politician, Alexei Navalny, upon his return to Russia; understands that Mr Navalny was recovering from serious illness, having been poisoned with the nerve agent, Novichok, in Siberia in August 2020; supports the call from Amnesty International and Charles Michel, the President of the Council of Europe, for the release of Mr Navalny, and calls on the Russian authorities to investigate the poisoning of Mr Navalny, to hold to account those responsible and to uphold democracy, human rights and the rule of law in Russia.
