Funding for Community Leisure

  • Submitted by: Brian Whittle, South Scotland, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 23 September 2020
  • Motion reference: S5M-22806

That the Parliament notes reports of increasing concern across the community leisure and culture sector at the precarious financial position in which independent charitable trusts find themselves after a long period of restricted operations due to COVID-19; understands that this places the future of many swimming pools, libraries, cultural facilities and leisure centres at risk; recognises their central role in providing vital health and wellbeing services for many vulnerable communities and the many thousands of jobs that are at risk, and calls on the Scottish Government to recognise the trusts' unique position and provide a viable and targeted scheme of priority rescue funding.
