West Lothian Nurse, Frances Aitken, Named as Finalist in the Mental Health Nursing Award Category of the RCN Scotland Nurse of the Year Awards 2024

That the Parliament congratulates Frances Aitken, Lead Dementia Nurse for Stress and Distress at St John’s Hospital, Livingston, on being named as a finalist in the Mental Health Nursing Award category of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Scotland Nurse of the Year Awards 2024; acknowledges that the Mental Health Nursing Award is one of the 12 categories for which finalists have been announced, encompassing various nursing specialities across Scotland; understands that Frances was nominated for her work to improve the care experience for patients with cognitive decline in St John’s Hospital; further understands that she has led the implementation of the Stress and Distress programme, and that she runs training for staff that has helped reduce the need for one-to-one nursing, sedation and emergency calls, along with improved pain management for patients, and wishes Frances continued success in her career.
