Alloa Hub Highly Commended in the Scottish Civic Trust My Place Awards 2024

  • Submitted by: Alexander Stewart, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 23 April 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12932

That the Parliament welcomes the news that Alloa Hub has been highly commended in the Scottish Civic Trust's My Place Awards 2024; understands that the project transformed a derelict public toilet block into a new hub that promotes local identity and active travel; further understands that the Hub now houses a meeting room/workshop, an accessible toilet, a shower facility to encourage active travel, a flexible retail space promoting local artisans and an exhibition of the community-stitched Clackmannanshire Tapestry; understands that the My Place Awards provide a national stage for grassroots, community-led regeneration projects, many of which, it believes, have not received formal recognition for their hard work; believes that the awards not only provide a platform for celebration, but also serve as a key networking tool for community-led regeneration projects across Scotland to learn about similar initiatives, share ideas and provide peer-to-peer support; acknowledges what it considers to be the importance of the Scottish Civic Trust’s work, in addition to the necessity of community-led regeneration, which inspired ever more communities to work together in order to design healthy, inclusive, sustainable and well-designed places, and commends Alloa Hub and everyone involved and nominated in the awards for what it sees as their highly magnanimous, community-focused endeavours.
