  • Submitted by: Annie Wells, Glasgow, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 17 April 2024

That the Parliament congratulates Café d'Jaconelli on celebrating its 100th year in business; understands that the café was established in 1924 at Queen's Cross in Maryhill; further understands that the much-loved institution has become iconic for its red leatherette seats, 50s-style booths and fittings, fish tank and vintage jukebox; understands that locals and celebrities have flocked to the shop to enjoy what is considered the finest example of a classic Scots-Italian eatery that Glasgow has to offer, and that filmmakers have also fallen in love with the café, with it appearing in countless movies such as Trainspotting and the classic rock and roll drama, Tutti Frutti, starring the late Robbie Coltrane; further understands that Jaconelli's ice cream is also a favourite of Billy Connolly, with the owners reportedly cooking up a special recipe just for the Big Yin whenever he visited, and wishes the iconic café a happy 100th anniversary.
