Graham Watson BEM Raises Funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation

  • Submitted by: Emma Harper, South Scotland, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 02 April 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12709

That the Parliament congratulates Graham Watson BEM, a grocer in the Dumfries and Galloway village of Moniaive, for smashing his £1,000 fundraising goal by raising more than £4,200 towards the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, which is a charity committed to funding research to find effective treatments, with the ultimate aim of a cure, for motor neuron disease (MND); understands that MND sadly took the life of Scottish Rugby international star, Doddie Weir, at the age of 52, but that, thanks to his work and legacy, progress is being made both in MND research and in supporting those living with the condition and their families; understands that retired submariner, Graham, completed his challenge by doing 5,000 press-ups, in spite of his arthritis diagnosis; further understands that the grocery shop encouraged donations to the foundation by displaying the travelling Doddie Sheep sculpture, painted in Doddie’s famous blue and yellow tartan suit, and wishes Graham, every generous donor to the My Name’5 Doddie charity, and the many clinicians and scientists exploring treatments, and ultimately a cure for MND, success in their efforts.
