Safe Families 10-year Anniversary

  • Submitted by: Jeremy Balfour, Lothian, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 06 March 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12408

That the Parliament congratulates Safe Families on its 10-year anniversary; understands that its mission is to make sure that children are seen, heard, understood and not alone; commends the work that Safe Families and its volunteers have done to create a support network to combat loneliness in communities; recognises that Safe Families links children, young people and families to local volunteers who offer them help, support and real community; understands that Safe Families volunteers provide respite care for children who are between care facilities or foster homes, and believes that this work provides a safe and comfortable place for children who are going through a time of real instability and uncertainty; notes that Safe Families is made up of over 5,000 volunteers from over 1,000 churches and community groups and have a staff team of around 150 dedicated people throughout the UK; understands that it connects 1,500 families each year and has demonstrated a decrease of the flow of children into care of between 9% to 16%, and wishes Safe Families even more success looking forward.
