Rotary Foundation Work on Eradicating Polio

  • Submitted by: Annabelle Ewing, Cowdenbeath, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 28 February 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12315

That the Parliament commends the work of Cowdenbeath Rotary Club, and the wider Rotary Club Foundation, on helping to eradicate polio; understands that the Rotary Foundation Programme is funded by every rotary club in the world, each paying a levy per member, to help fund the programme to carry out important work such as helping to eradicate polio; notes that the End Polio Now campaign began around 30 years ago as millions of people were affected by the disease, and understands that by 2023 only 12 cases had been recorded thanks to the immunisation programme that the campaign has sponsored around the world; believes that the programme would not be possible without the fundraising efforts of local rotary clubs, including in Cowdenbeath; recognises that the programme has committed to eradicating polio once and for all; thanks them for their hard work and dedication, and wishes them all the best as they continue to work towards their goal.
