Congratulations to Connect on its Fifth Anniversary

  • Submitted by: Keith Brown, Clackmannanshire and Dunblane, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 28 February 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-12296

That the Parliament congratulates Connect on its fifth anniversary; understands that the Clackmannanshire-based charity was established in Alloa in 2019, in partnership with St Mungo’s Parish Church, after a lengthy community consultation, which, it understands, demonstrated a clear need for a space for young people to help tackle social isolation; further understands that the organisation now occupies its own premises and has progressed from being run by volunteers to having a staff team of seven, comprised of a manager, coordinator, senior youth worker, three youth workers and a cleaner; notes that they now operate a service four days a week that remains free of charge, and which provides a safe place for any young person from P7 to 19 years of age; acknowledges that Connect was recognised by Youth Scotland in its impact report for its online work during the COVID-19 pandemic, and wishes the organisation continued success for the future.
