Greenock Asian Restaurant Named Best in Scotland Just Months After Opening

  • Submitted by: Stuart McMillan, Greenock and Inverclyde, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 11 January 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-11841

That the Parliament congratulates Umami by 17Ngon, run by chef Ben Egan, on being named Pan Asian Restaurant of the Year at the Scottish Asian Food Awards in Glasgow on 8 January 2024; notes that the street food café, which is based in Greenock, opened its doors on 30 August 2023 and offers an array of Pan Asian dishes, with the menu changing every few weeks to offer a variety of dishes for customers; recognises that Ben previously worked in Michelin star restaurants before moving to Inverclyde and has travelled extensively through Asia, where he developed a love for cuisines such as Japanese and Vietnamese; believes that this award is testament to the quality and variety of dishes offered by Ben, and how well-loved the food is by his growing customer base, and wishes him all the best for the future.
