Forth Valley Radio Show for Veterans

  • Submitted by: Alexander Stewart, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 20 January 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07577

That the Parliament welcomes the news that a Sunday afternoon radio show, aimed at helping veterans deal with symptoms of anxiety and PTSD, has launched across Clackmannanshire; understands that the new show to be aired on Tillicoultry-based Forth Valley Radio will be named Veteran Tall Tales and will feature guests sharing real or fictional stories, which allow them to connect with other ex-military colleagues in a similar position; further understands that the show is designed by presenter Mark Wallace as a safe space for veterans to talk and feel comfortable; believes that, with funding from Foundation Scotland and the Baillie Gifford Trust, the show was taken on by Forth Valley Radio; understands that the idea was originally intended to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety or PTSD in ex-military personnel; considers that many members of the armed forces leave their positions and find that they struggle to reconnect with life as a civilian, and notes that the show is recommended to any members of the armed forces who may be finding life since leaving service difficult, by allowing veterans to reconnect with the communities that they once knew, by bringing out a sense of comradeship that some of them might not have felt since leaving the military.
