That the Parliament congratulates Mr Yawar Khan and the Asian Catering Federation for organising the sixth Asian Restaurant Awards, held at the Sheraton Hotel in Edinburgh on 1 November 2022; understands that the awards programme recognises Scotland’s best loved Asian dining establishments with both national and regional winners being named from top restaurants located across the Highlands, north east and central belt; congratulates Edinburgh’s Prahna Indian Grill, which was named as Scotland’s Best Asian Restaurant of the Year; understands that other winners of the night included Cilantro in Edinburgh, as Newcomer of the Year, Edinburgh’s St John's Curry Club and the Curry Pot Indian Takeaway in Dunfermline winning the Just Eat award for Scotland’s best Asian Takeaway/Delivery establishment and Harajuku Kitchen and Tattu in Edinburgh as Best Japanese and Best Chinese Restaurant respectively; further understands that regional winners included Prahna Indian Grill and Cove Restaurant in Edinburgh, Handi in Central & Fife, Carron to Mumbai and Light of Bengal in Aberdeenshire, Charcoal in Glasgow and West of Scotland, and Masala Ram’s in Stirlingshire; notes that the 2022 awards take place in what it sees as a particularly trying time for the restaurant and catering industry, with many institutions facing pressures on both bills and staffing; further notes what it considers as the contribution of the Asian restaurant industry to the Scottish economy; understands that it contributes £5 billion and employs over 100,000 people; calls on the Scottish and UK governments to work together to provide support for businesses like this in what it considers will be the difficult coming months, and wishes the Asian Catering Federation and the Asian restaurant industry in Scotland all the best for the coming year.
